Lionel Messi edge past Mo Salah to win prestigious European award

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi beats Mo Salah to European golden boot.

set to win the European golden boot as fierce rival Mohamed Salah has ended the current season with 32 goals - Salah's record of 32 goals was enough to ensure the Egyptian set a new Premier League record.

Messi is the joint-record holder with old rival Cristiano Ronaldo on four Rave of the moment, Mohamed Salah may have smashed the Premier League's 38-game goal scoring record — but that still was not enough for the Egyptian to land the European Golden Boot.

Salah's strike in Liverpool's final match of the season against Brighton saw him make it 32 in the league.

However, he was still two goals short of Lionel Messi's tally of 34 La Liga goals— with the Argentina captain having one more match remaining.
Messi is the joint-record holder with old rival Cristiano Ronaldo on four, but will become the outright leader unless something incredible happens next week.

With 29, Ciro Immobile is the top goal scorer in Serie A and still has one match remaining as Lazio host Inter Milan next weekend. But he would need something out of this world to deny Messi as even five would only see them share the award.

Should things remain as they are, Harry Kane will finish in third place with admirable 30 goals — while, Robert Lewandowski is next with 29. Over the past 11 years, there have only been two players other than Messi or Ronaldo to claim the award.

Diego Forlan's 32 for Atletico Madrid was enough in 2009, while Suarez won it 2016 with Barcelona and shared it with Ronaldo after hitting 31 for Liverpool in 2014.

Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah has been crowned the 2017-18 Premier League highest goals scorer with 32 goals in a season.

The 25-year-old became the first player to score 32 EPL goals in a single season after scoring in the Reds 4-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield on Sunday, May 13.

Alan Shearer initially set the record of 31 goals in 1996, but Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez both equaled the record in 2008 and 2014 respectively.
