West Brom Complete Loan Signing Of Daniel Sturridge From Liverpool (Photos)
West Brom have completed the loan signing of Daniel Sturridge from Liverpool.
The England striker has joined on loan until the end of the season.
Sturridge had been expected to join Newcastle and was due for a medical earlier today before west Brom swooped in.
Sturridge is battling to keep his World Cup hopes alive after falling down the pecking order at Liverpool.
He has struggled for games this season making just five starts.
“This felt like the right fit,” he said.
“I’ve got friends here I’ve played with before, the manager spoke very well, the challenge with the team and the style of play. I just felt this was the right fit for me.”
The signing comes as a huge boost to Alan Pardew who is battling against relegation.
And he declared it a coup for the rest of the season.
West Brom sit second bottom in the table, three points from safety.
“I hope our fans can understand that we are fighting to stay in the Premier League, not just on the pitch but in the market place as well,” said Pardew.
“This is a big coup for us and I speak for my staff and my players and say ‘thank you’ to Daniel for agreeing to assist us in League and Cup.
“He has fantastic talent and will strengthen our ambitions on both fronts.”
Sturridge becomes the second high profile departure at Liverpool this month after Philippe Coutinho sealed a £142m move to Barcelona.
And it leaves Liverpool light up top with just Roberto Firmino, Danny Ings and Dominic Solanketo pick from up top.
But Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool are well-stocked.
He said: ”In the next few days probably a lot will happen in the transfer market and we will see what happens here, but nothing else to say about that.
"Even if there would be something [to say], it would not help us or another club, to make the deal if [I said something]. That's why it makes no sense to talk about it - you write it anyway.
